Some of us old timers get the mail, but there isn't much that
happens. Oh, the days of Bunezuela arguing with Jeff, the Trickfest
recounts, Kim's road trips, who could post the fastest reviews (and
fashion reports), that idiot MOTAR and a couple of the other trolls.

It seemed like fun, but then again, I am getting pretty old. I
realize that my first CT concert was over 60% of my life ago. That's
right, 60%. I had just turned 20. Now I am 50.

P.S.--My son Mac Potts is playing at the Cincinnati Blues Festival
this Saturday 8/4 at 8 pm on the boogie woogie stage. He is my
favorite artist now. Google him sometime.

Yeah, my first Cheap Trick show was July 29, 1978
- I was 12 years old - soon to be 13.
Now I'm 41 - soon to be 42...... how time flies!

Can't fathom that I've been following this band for
almost 30 years now and first saw them live 29 years
ago. I'm still here, and so are they - so that's a good
thing! :-)

My first Cheap Trick concert was 4 years ago, one of the best shows
I've ever seen. Opened for Foghat. Foghat should have opened for them.

I saw Foghat four times from 1982 (at the time still playing arenas, opening
for Triumph) to 1987 or so (smaller and smaller bars)... every time a they
were a little more inspired than the previous time.

At the time, it was pleasant news that they hung up the towel after what I
saw...

I'd like to hear from someone who has seen the old and new Foghat
(post-lonesome Dave) and let me know what they think of their latest
incarnation.

Oops, make that a "little less inspired," I don't know where that original
came from.

I'm a huge Foghat fan....especially Lonesome Dave (RIP). I've got
some early stuff on vhs and Dave was quite a showman...very
animated. I've got a tape of them on Don Kirchners and it's
fantastic.

I saw the new incarnation at Riverfest in Beloit a few years ago and i
thought they were very good. Charlie Huhn is the singer...he did the
vocals
for Nugents Weekend Warriors, Intensities In 10 Cities albums. The
guitarist is Bryan Bassett who was Dave's best friend...he played
guitar when
they were Lonesome Dave's Foghat around 89-90.....he's also the guitar
player on the song Play That Funky Music (Wild Cherry). The bassist
is Craig MacGregor, he replaced Tony Stevens in the 70's and also
replaced Tony a few years ago. He's very solid. And of course, Roger
Earl is still
the drummer. Charlie Huhn uses the exact same stage banter that Dave
used to say.

They don't compare to the original band, but they're worth seeing if
they're in your area.

Now I'm really old. I saw Foghat open for the Faces WITH Rod Stewart
in 1974 or 1975 at the Hec Edmundson Pavilion at the UW. it was
unbelievable. Both bands totally tore down the house. Saw the Hat
about four more times with Lonesome Dave as headliners up until about
1980 and most of the shows were OK, but I got progressively tired of
the ultra long "Slow Ride". About that time, Cheap Trick, the Clash,
the Jam, Elvis Costello, Graham Parker and Rockpile were around then,
and I was a lot more excited with those.

In 1977 Foghat was the backup band for a bunch of legendary blues
musicians.....Muddy Waters, Johnny WInter, Otis Rush, Paul
Butterfield, others.
A friend of mine has a copy on vhs.....one of the bluesman says let's
hear it for the Froghat. Maybe that's why it never got released.

OMG!!! Little Charlie is taking his place? I had the chance to see them
recently but had no idea Lonesome Dave was gone. Had I known LC was on
vocs, I would have done it. When did LD die and from what?

LC was also in Victory after his stint with The Nuge. He has a very
powerful voice and no bad on the eyes either. He is a very nice fun guy as
well.

I'd love to see some old video of the original Foghat!

Lonesome Dave died from cancer in 2000. He literally rocked til he
dropped. They released a dvd
of show that was performed 3 months before he died. He didn't look
like the LD from the 70's but he still
sang like it. His wife passed away from cancer about a year later.

Well Charli, surprisingly enough, I am going. Despite hating casino
gigs in general, a friend of mine bought us tickets. Probably well
back from the stage.

I am no longer in the "inside" of the Cheap Trick circle, because I
posted something here that a certain somebody didn't like, and I am no
longer welcome backstage. Boo hoo. Oh, and I don't have anything to
"share" anymore, as I enjoy staying clean. But I think the show
should rock enough for me to go. In the last year I have seen about
no rock bands, only blues bands because I go to festivals with my son
and his band. I saw Kenny Loggins and Pancho Sanchez last week at the
local Wine and Jazz Festival.

My son's band opened for the not-so-Fabulous Thunderbirds in Albany
Oregon a month ago. If I must say so, they kind of stole the show,
even though they only got 20 damn minutes. The Thunderbirds are a
retread of what they used to be. Without Jimmy, there is no fire.

But I digress. I'll post a review of the show on this board. Haven't
done that for about 5 years now. I pretty much never look at the
official CT board. Why bother.

PS--I miss Flis, also. I wonder how she's doing--still teaching

Don't expect much Dick..

I hadn't seen a show since 2001 but took my wife and girls to see them
back in July to a free show in Detroit. It was very hot that day and
while they looked like they were having fun talking to the people
between songs, during the songs they looked like that wanted to be doing
anything but playing. For whatever reason Rick Nielsen seemed pissed at
his guitar tech. He would go back by his amps and pick up a plastic
glass of water, take a sip, and then drop the whole glass on the stage.
He did that 2 or 3 times.

Does that asshole t-shirt guy IDK Jon / IDK Merchandising do every show
with them?

We're standing in front of the stage less than an hour before they go on
and my girls wanted a shirt. They went over to the booth 3 times before
he'd sell them one each. He was setting up and couldn't be bothered to
open the box or two and get out the kids shirts so they could see what
was a available. "Come back later..." The booth was just so packed with
people wanting to buy shirts and all.

It's sad to see they couldn't even sell 500 of those Sgt. Pepper
T-shirts in 2 nights at that Hollywood Bowl show. Oh well you get what
you pay for..

Flog is fine, married for seven years, sober for 6 years now (as of 10/2),
the two events are in no way related, but maybe they are, we will never
know. Finally saw a CT show Memorial Weekend in Charlotte, from the front
row after an 11 hr wait with Jimmy. I sent some of my pics to
cheaptrick.com, don't know if they are still there.

I talk to Rusty from time to time, he emailed me after the VH show in
Greensboro to tell me of Kevin's passing, so I decided to stop back here for
a spell.
I miss the old gang, I really do...it has been 9 years since the LA Album
shows, this week in fact, and Connie, Rusty and I nand a bunch of others
went out for the shows, hung out with The California Gang, as I used to call
them - Flis, Danyysaint, The Zuelas, Tony Pinto, Tony Guyan, and several
others. Cheryl Hotckick was there too, I believe, but I don't remember if
she was a Cali native or not. That was a fantastic time, and makes B
Zuela''s passing this week all the more sad.

Smak: if you are still around, the golf game has been revivied, New Adams
A2OS hybrid irons, and I'm in the 80's again.
