Discussion:
Why is "The Doctor" such a rare CD?

I have never run across a copy of "The Doctor" in CD stores new or
used. I know that it was released in 1986, but I also know that a lot
of albums during this time, such as Black Sabbath's "7th Star", also in
1986, only got a cassette and LP release.

Was "The Doctor" released on CD in 1986? Why is this album so elusive?

To me, it's leaps and bounds better than the crap they did with Rundgren
(Next Position...). I used to really like that album, but when I listened
to it, I thought it was dated and weak. I don't know if my copy of 'The
Doctor' is remastered or anything, but, I personally think it's a great
mix... Maybe because I think it all went downhill after that...

I was strictly commenting in the sound quality of the CD... the LP sounds
much richer than the CD, which has a very tinny sound (much like the initial
"In Color" CD release did).

It was considered a terrible album. In retrospect, it's definitely one of
my faves now - those songs are great! But, you have to get past the
sequencing.

It's about as rare as 'Standing on the Edge'.. It took me forever to
locate both of those gems...

It's hard to find because it is out of print. It's out of print because
it wasn't selling. It was discontinued by Sony/Epic several years ago,
along with at least one of their other slower selling albums. Your best
bet is to watch for it on eBay. Set up a saved search and you will get
an email notification when someone lists one for sale.

I just noticed it is still in print in Japan. For 1785 Yen plus postage,
you can get it here:
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/(with_comments,simple)/detailview.html?KEY=MHCP-2020

I have done business with this company and they are very good for
ordering Japanese CDs from the USA.

Guys...first time poster, but found my way to the msg boards and
specifically this post...I was in a high-school choir that recorded an
album (yes album!) at the same studio that CT was recording The Dr. in at
the time...I actually got an autographed copy somehow (didn't meet them or
anything) but my stupid college-age self sold the thing to a buyback place
a couple of years later! Not that it would be worth money, but I am sure
someone here would have liked it! Oh well, anyone with stories of the
recording of the album should post them!
